Those X Mini Speakers… How are they?

To me, They Rock.

Why?

– It amplifies the hell out of my Mac Book Pro, Iphone, Ipad and whatever devices that I would have that has a earphone jack.
– I can take it anywhere, from the comfort of my room, to the beach and most practically when I travel.
– It’s Mini, runs on internal batteries, rechargeable by USB, so no more lugging around of a powersupply just to have great LOUD sounds coming out of my hotel room.
– No power supply meaning I won’t have to worry about the local voltage of the country I’m in.
– I can pump the groove in the toilet while I pump some other stuff out 😉
– It’s the real deal, and kicks the ass out of the fakes with a meagre difference in price.
– It’s way sturdier than the fakes, throw it in your luggage, your laptop bag, your handbag, pull it out anytime and rock on!
– A fresh take on my mixes and productions while I’m on the go other than relying on my Monster Beats headphones
– Mine’s a cool looking red egg
– It’s the ultimate portable speakers for my portable audio devices for far, U’ll want it 😉
– It’s invented by a Singaporean.

Actually I heard of this brand of speakers about 1-2 years ago thru a friend, but never actually saw how it looks or heard how it sounds. It was only recently I got my hands on one. That’s when I realized I actually bought a fake one last Christmas! And while I was real excited how loud those fakes sounded, they were crappy stuff that couldn’t last. Throw it in my luggage and when it comes out, I have to persuade it to work. I actually went thru 2 of those. Zzzz…

So now I know, X Mini is the real deal and it’s invented by a Singaporean! Respect!

Now that I finally experienced the real thing, yeaahhh it rocks! If it’s from a consumer point of view, U can easily understand why from the advantages I wrote above. But from a musician point of view, here’s how it works for me.

With the portable recording studio becoming more and more advanced, I can easily do arrangements, editing of tracks, recording vocals/instruments on the road. Sometimes I use these recordings as it is, for demoes and stuff. And other times I take it back to my home studio and continue working on it. But whatever it is, I would need some form of audio monitoring while I’m working at it. I can’t possibly lug monitor speakers wherever I go, and headphones are great but your ears will tire out if you rely on them all the way. And of course when U wanna let more than one person to hear your stuff at the same time, the headphones wouldn’t allow that. With a quick set up, the X Mini allows me an alternative to headphones for monitoring with the added advantage of blasting music loud to others without much added weight or luggage space.

As for checking mixes, we usually put our mixes thru different speakers just to get a different take on things. I definitely wouldn’t say the X Mini has superior audiophile reference quality sound, and actually it distorts if U abuse it or use it wrongly. But I will for sure use it to check my mixes in future. Reason is being, not everyone will have the luxury to listen their music thru studio reference speakers. In fact lots of people listen to their music thru their TV speakers, laptop or thru their headphones etc. That’s the reason why I always take my mixes thru at least 4 sets of different speakers/headphones. And now I can add the X Mini in to check my mixes too coz I believe it’s a good reference for a more superior way of listening to portable music on the go.

So yeaahhh, whether it’s for work(maybe some of U guys need to do presentations that require audio to heard) or for play (for me, it’s the same thing 😉 ) X Mini rocks my world! Thanks!

I can do whatever, whereever

Errr, don’t read too much into that title 😉 hahah but what I mean is I know some of my friends who do concert tours dread airports, flying and transits and stuff. But for me it’s always a blast coz I can do whatever, whereever for my work as long as I can have my Mac Book Pro with me. And recently I’ve got myself a Mobile me so whenever I think of anything, I just write a note or type an appointment into the calender on my phone, forget about it, and when I open my laptop later, I see it there! and vice versa. It works really great.

And I’m probably every air stewardess/steward’s favourite flyer coz even before the plane takes off, I sleep, I don’t even bother eating, coz I prefer sleeping to eating. This trip however, something happened for the 1st time. I was on a China Southern flight and I woke up about half hour before landing. The stewardess came up to me and said ‘Mister, we still have half hour before we land, U missed the food coz U were so tired just now and I didn’t wanna disturb U, can I present U with the meal now?’ Now that’s cool service. Nevermind the food was bad, but the service was cool =D And I think food quality can be easily improved but service quality, U can beat the hell out of your staff but if they don’t get what they represent, U can’t force it.

So yeahhh, now I’m entertaining myself writing this to U at a quaint Chinese Tea restaurant sipping tea and using their internet. Soon I’ll be back in Sg and soon I’ll be gone again.

This is fun =D

PS : Yeah I’m having a blast, but don’t think I’m having so much fun till I forgot about the ‘project’ that I’m still planning on, things are moving steadily and I’m learning so much and meeting so many interesting people that I never would have if I didn’t work so hard in trying to pull it off. Hang in there…I always prefer to make things GREAT on the 1st go.

See U in 东莞!

Written on flight, after 华健 tour 1st stop.

59470_439302882365_275905307365_4956224_2572743_nBJ back to Sg…

The 1st stop is done, how was it? Abso*$&%inglutely fantastic =D. Not only the band now is tight as hell, I made a lot of nice friends in the trip.

On the last nite, 华健(oh btw, I JUST realized that I’ve been writing his name wrong all the way! And no one corrected me ☹ made me kena suan by China fans on Weibo!)

Hahaha so anyway 华健 asked me to say to say something to the crowd and so I said : 我是个新加坡人,我知道今天在场也有新加坡人(coz there were Singapore flags admist the audience ;),我觉得我们(华健 and us, the band)太幸福了,因为你们内地朋友们太热请了!我真的觉得北京真正欢迎了我们。谢谢!

Next Stop…Wuhan…I KNOW FOR SURE it’s gonna be killer =D

PS : Recently a person called ‘Jon’(email<probably fake) called me a *$&%face on my blog, I dunno if he’s my friend or not, if he’s my friend, that’s all cool, but if he’s a hater, that’s all cool too lah! To each his own, so yeah Jon, if U want, u can help me spell out Abso*$&%inglutely 😉 Coz somewhat as a public figure in the Mandarin music fans scene, even though I’m no angel, but I don’t really wanna spell out expletives on this blog lah, There are kids out there who look up to me coz of what I do for a living. And lemme tell U why, coz EVERYDAY OF MY LIFE IS A BLAST SO MUCH THAT IT AMAZES ME So if U’re not actually my personal friend, am not a public figure or an aspiring entertainer, and have no interest to be one, then go ahead and swear at me some more, I been in this industry since 1996 leehhh, my skin is super thick, at this stage now, I just find it amusing coz sticks and stones may… 😉

Signing Off

G.L. HYR =D

Wahh this 黃韻仁, damn G.L man!

hahhah, this is what my friends started hearing from their friends after a recent article came out on me with the headline BLASTING that I think that the audience here in Singapore 不懂音乐 , as a result I will never play in clubs here anymore. One other friend even said I was called a ‘Cocky B*st*rd’ hahaha…

Well 1st of all, if U dunno what G.L is, U’re 1. Not a Singaporean 2. Too young to be reading this, so turn around 😉 For the rest of U, G.L in Singapore is a slang for being cocky!

For those who know me, U know I’m G.L at times, but not THAT stupidly G.L where I burn my own bridges lah! Otherwise how the hell would I still be standing after 14 years?! hahhahh! In the 1st place, I don’t even know how long I can last in this crazy recorded music biz and one day I might end up having to play in clubs everyday again…So naahhh, I think I’m not that Unnice. I mean of coz I love the Singaporeans no matter what coz errr…I’m one myself! Singapore has TOO MUCH Talent to be ignored or to be termed as 不懂音乐.

Anyway to clarify, that interview was sparked by my earlier post on this blog.

Since National Day just passed, let’s talk a little about our Singapore culture =D

And so a reporter called me up and we had a good chat on me elaborating that post, this reporter always steady one, so I guess the headline was made somewhere along the way later for tabaliod engaging issues. But anyway whatever, at least I hope it got U interested to read on and know I’m not talking about audience here not knowing music, but rather me hoping the audience will appreciate our local talents more so that we can all rise to greater heights.

But then again, if U didn’t really read it and rather take it it at surface value, then it’s also ok lah. I don’t need to please everyone =D

So whatever it is, I’m still glad that interview was done!

And now, I’m in a plane writing this, with my Gibson Les Paul, J-45, Monster ‘Beats’ to hit Beijing with 华建 to a SCREAMING audience with 3 shows, I know it’s gonna be great coz the band did so many rehearsals to perfect the show. I will go around Beijing clubs whenever I have the time to check out and see their audience reaction =D

Peace Out!
